Benefits of local food systemsThe local food system had been a vast help to the developed countries and many developing countries from the recent years of when it had started. It has increased the profit of small scale businesses because it gets rid of high transportation expenses and some trading additional expense as well. Some additional expenses would cover from the payment of the handler to the preservatives to be taken consideration in long travel and the repacking materials. Local food system gives income and employment just around their vicinity or community. The community that they have been staying on their production are the one that is benefited from their product. It would totally help in the income of the community.

The freshness of the product are said to be healthy wise, and most consumers would directly consider eating home grown products because it avoids them from getting harmed of preservatives added when travelled a long way and with the extended shelf life or when packed at their respective containers. The fresh taste of the product would also be delectable than the repacked products. The local food increases fibre and lowers down fat and lowers down salt intake of the consumers unlike the preserved food.

In the social aspect, in helps the tourism department to enhance the community’s own home grown product that they should be known of. In a certain aspect where tourists would like to visit a certain community just to taste their local product. It also would show the tourists their own local traditional way of handling the local products.  The community would also have to create their own identity of their local product. Consumers are vigilant on how the food has been grown, as it was produced in their locality, they would easily determine the benefits of it. It has been proven that the community consumers would choose to buy or take priority in buying home grown food.

The local food reduces food contamination of certain bacteria that are accumulated through the long distance of travel. Consumers would know the safety of the food they are eating because they know where it was harvested. Unlike preserved foods, when there is for instance an outbreak of certain bacteria on the place where it has been harvested, you won’t be able to determine if that product has also been contaminated. So, for the safety of the consumers, they should be able to know where the product has been produced.

Knowing where your food had been produced, it creates inter personal relationship with the producer to its consumer. Unlike in the supermarket or mall where the product had already been packed for you, you won’t be able to communicate directly to the owners. The consumers will have a choice of their favourite food as they have been friendly with the producers of it. Thus, it creates a community.

The local food systems indeed benefited the producers and the consumers on the same way it benefits the community. It has been proven to be effective and the community should work together for the progress of the place they are living.
